International Cat Day 2023 (Ode to Persephone)

I’ve just learned that today is International Cat Day! I had another post planned for today, but obviously celebrating Persephone is much more important.

Just over two years ago I met my best friend for life. From the moment I saw her in the Petsmart Kitty Cube (as my husband and I have dubbed it), I knew I would do absolutely anything for this 11-pound mustachioed beauty.

She cuddles with me every night to help me fall asleep.

She lets me bury my face in her fuzzy little chest.

She has a comforting kitty smell.

She chirps at me when I return home after being gone.

She crawls onto my chest when I haven’t been paying enough attention to her.

She greets me at the door.

She is so friendly to every single person she’s ever met.

She walks across my keyboard and skips ahead in the YouTube videos I’m watching.

She sleeps on my husband’s legs because I flail too much at night, but still lets me pet her when I wake up from a bad dream.

She has an adorable white whisker on the right side of her face.

She lays in the freshly-dried pile of laundry I’m trying to fold.

She suns herself in the window and meows at the neighbors.

She follows me from room to room, leading my husband to call her “Mommy’s little shadow.”

She goes floppy when I pick her up multiple times a day and accepts the cuddles.

She obligingly poses for photos and looks at the camera.

She can tell when I’m having a high-anxiety day and gives me extra attention.

She makes biscuits on my legs.

She follows me into the bathroom and jumps onto the back of the toilet to keep an eye on me.

She hears me having a panic attack from the other room and comes to check on me.

She jumps onto my back or stomach whenever I’m laying on the floor.

She is my entire heart.

I could go on and on. I think I already have. I truly love this cat more than words can describe. She is my angel. She is my entire heart. She is my best friend and fuzzy little soulmate. I love you, Persephone.
