The #TropeChallenge With Me & My Husband

Yes, my husband appears in today’s post! I saw the #TropeChallenge going around and wanted to join in. This is where you choose the romance tropes that apply to you and your partner, and I’ve loved seeing everybody’s pictures and reading about their relationships’ origin stories.

Just in time for our second wedding anniversary! This is me and Lewis.

We met as coworkers at our college’s tutoring center in September 2019. He was the physics tutor and I was the French tutor. The moment he sat down at the table across from me during orientation, I thought he was the cutest person ever and was sure I would make a fool out of myself in front of him. About three weeks later, we were dating. I knew early on that he was something special.

When Covid-19 hit, we thought lockdown would only be for a few weeks, so I moved in with him for the duration. Joke’s on me, lockdown lasted a year and I never moved out again. We lived in his mom’s attic for over a year, doing online classes until we graduated and then getting jobs. Talk about forced proximity. We never got a break from each other. But I didn’t want a break.

I have a whole slew of mental illnesses, and Lewis is always calming me down. He is a grounding and comforting presence. I cry at least once a week and he is always there to comfort me. Hurt/comfort has always been my favorite trope, so I count myself lucky that I have it in my relationship!

I tend to have my head in the clouds while Lewis is more practical. We balance each other out. We are always joking around with each other and making each other laugh.

We are both absolute nerds – which you could probably guess from our “meet cute” story. He is a STEM guy while I am a liberal artsy girl. He does the math and I do the commas.

I feel so lucky to have found my person. Happy almost-two-year anniversary, Lewis! I can’t imagine my life without you in it.
