Imperfect Blogging

It seems to be a regular occurrence now to have a month between posts, and I think I’ve figured out why. Thank you for sticking with me! This will be an update sort of post.

I’m a perfectionist. I’m willing to bet a lot of you guys are, too – a lot of crafters seem to be. And I recently realized that I’m a perfectionist about blogging, too, which shouldn’t be a surprise to me. But that’s not what this blog is about. I made this blog to share my love of crafting with other people. The creative process is messy and not always pretty, but I want to share that too. I love seeing other people’s works in progress, so why not write about mine too?

I’ve fallen into a year-long case of writer’s block for this same reason: if it’s not perfect, why bother writing at all? But the truth is that everyone has to start somewhere, and I’ll never improve without practice. So I’m making a goal to write for fun again. To share my imperfect writing. I had so much fun with The Yarn Wars, even though it isn’t very good.

I created a Wattpad account, onceuponayarn, to post these writing adventures. I’d love if you wanted to read along. I’m trying something new that I’ve wanted to write for ages – a young adult romance, just to see how it goes. I also entered a Wattpad writing contest just for fun. And you know, it feels fantastic. It doesn’t matter if it’s perfect; you just have to write something.

Here’s the blurb for the novel. I’m having a lot of fun with it, and it’s a good summer writing project!

By the Sea (someone please help me title things)

endlessOn the edge of the sea, Lee Baker spends her days reading, crafting, and being homeschooled. Although their life at Oceanview Trailer Park is far from luxurious, Lee is happy the way things are, spending the days with her best friend Ana. But the summer Lee turns 17, everything changes.

When Noah moves to Myrtle Cove, Lee’s predictable life is turned upside down. Noah is quiet, anxious, and doesn’t want any part of his mom’s summer beach house plans. Lee is roped into being his tour guide, and unexpectedly, the two hit it off and strike up a friendship. Then Ana moves away. After losing her closest friend, Lee is reluctant to make another, but she doesn’t want to stay away from Noah. She begins to have feelings for him, and thinks he might feel the same way.

But when disaster strikes and Lee is left completely alone, will Noah stick around? And will she let him?

You can read it here, if you’re so inclined. I have two chapters posted so far, but I’m up to chapter 9. It’s super nice to have a writing project that isn’t for college. I was thinking about posting this here on Once Upon a Yarn, but Wattpad seems better suited for this sort of thing.

I’d love to know if you’ve had similar experiences with perfectionism. I’m honored to have you guys along for the ride. Your support means a lot to me, and thank you for all your kind words about my past writing. <3
