The One With Cow Pigeon

Okay, today’s post is a little silly, but in the best possible way. At my college, there’s this amazing pigeon that looks like a cow, and an anonymous student created an Instagram page for it. Now students take pictures of Cow Pigeon to send to @littlecowpigeon. There are over 300 posts on the account and 1K followers. Basically, it’s the most wholesome thing and I doubt there’s a pigeon who’s loved by more people.

But don’t take my word for it! Here are photos I took from my sightings of Cow Pigeon.

Fun fact: the one above was featured by Little Cow Pigeon for his 200th post. There may have been squealing. 😉

Cow Pigeon ate out of my hand! One of my classmates walked by while this was happening and did a double take. She was then kind enough to take some pictures and send them to me. Boy am I glad to have photographic evidence of this amazing event. I smiled the whole rest of the day. Even though Cow Pigeon ate my cookie I was saving.

The reason I’m sharing all of these pictures with you (other than the fact that Cow Pigeon is completely majestic and deserves to be seen by everyone) is that, when I love something, I crochet it. Well, you know that by now. You may have seen the latest design on Crochet Spot from yours truly, but if not, it’s this pattern for a pigeon…

Which I designed for the sole purpose of crocheting Cow Pigeon! As you can see, his coloring is pretty complex, so I thought it best to make a basic pigeon first to get the pattern right. The next round will be an attempt to make the beautiful CP himself. I’ve got plenty of pictures for reference. 🙂

I’ve seen this bird 15 times now, and it doesn’t get any less exciting. Honestly, some people just walk past him without even a sign of interest, and it makes me sad. Pigeons get a bad rap for being “rats with wings,” but as long as don’t you go around licking them, you’ll be just fine. Every single pigeon is this amazing, beautiful, miraculous creature and I wish more people took the time to recognize that.

With that said, would you be interested in seeing a list of all my Cow Pigeon sightings? I was thinking about making a reference page and I’d like to know if you’re interested! 🙂 And Happy Mother’s Day to my wonderful readers. I don’t know what pigeons have to do with that, but hopefully it made you smile. <3

  1. Claire, I love your crochet pigeon. It reminds me of the children’s book by Mo Willems, Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus.
