The “Winter” Launch Party

As many of you know, I attended the Winter launch party to celebrate the Lunar Chronicles series finale. See my excited fangirling post here. I brought along the four dolls I crocheted so I could show Marissa Meyer. (Spoiler alert: she liked them! Yay!) And, because you’re my lovely supportive blog followers, I have pictures for you! #WinterIsHere #BestDayEver #NearlyExplodedFromExcitement

But let me start at the beginning! Lucy @ Attic24 does the loveliest Yarndale recap posts, so I shall do the same with the launch party. 🙂 Also, I’m sure when I’m old and gray (or pink-haired) I’ll want to remember meeting my favorite author, so therefore I shall document it.

When we got there (‘we’ being me and my dad), we waited outside in the cold for a half hour until they opened the doors. Since we were among the first 200 people to bring a can of food for the food drive, I got a poster and a pair of Winter touchscreen gloves. Now, these gloves have been my golden fleece for months, so I may have gotten a little excited. Then they opened the doors into a slightly bigger room. There was a herald waiting to announce the parties – the first thing I thought of was “Crescent Moon,” unsurprisingly, since she’s my favorite character. And look what they handed me:

There were 15 people or so that got these – I got to walk across the stage! I think it was the tiara that did it. Or maybe my slightly crazed fangirl expression. 😉

We bought a copy of Winter and proceeded to the ‘show,’ which had a few parts to it (including the Best-Dressed Contest, which I didn’t win, but it was super fun!). Then came the book signing. I was pretty much shaking from excitement and nerves at this point.

When it was my turn, I dumped my stack of Lunar Chronicles books on the table and stared in awe at my favorite author, Marissa Meyer. I held up the amigurumi Winter and grappled for something to say. I settled for the stunningly eloquent comment, “Um, I crocheted Winter.”

“You made these?” Awkward nod from me.

To be honest, I don’t really remember what she said next, but it was something along the lines of “they’re so cute!”

She asked, “Are they for me?”

“I think my sister would kill me if I didn’t bring them home again,” I said. If I had been thinking, I would have given her Winter (since that’s what the launch party was for), but I panicked. She was really nice about it, though! I was super nervous, but I guess she’s used to people being awestruck in her presence. 🙂

After she signed my books I staggered away, feeling like I was about to pass out. I was definitely hyperventilating.

But the excitement wasn’t over, because there were actors dressed up like Lunar Chronicles characters parading around. There was Scarlet, Queen Levana, Winter, and Captain Thorne (who is one of my favorite characters ever!). I scuttled over with my poster in hand. I just have to share these pictures because it was so exciting! You can click to enlarge any of them – I forgot to get a picture with Scarlet. (Also: I hugged Levana. Just sayin’.)

I think this concludes today’s display of excited fangirling! I feel weird posting this many pictures of myself, but I wanted to show you photographic proof. 🙂 I can cross two things off my bucket list: Meet Marissa Meyer and Go to a ball. Oh, and I finished reading Winter in three days and I can honestly say it was the best book of the series! I’m sad the series is over, though.

I hope you’re having a fantastic Saturday! We shall return to our regularly scheduled crochet posts next time.

      1. Hehe, thank you so much, filliefanatic! Now I’m blushing. ?? I, too, am so happy Marissa Meyer liked my dolls! (I think I forgot to say her name there, in the post.) I can’t believe how lucky I was to get to meet her! Your comments were so sweet! <3

  2. Oh my gosh you look GORGEOUS!!!!! 😀 You totally should have won best-dressed. I’m fangirling with you!!!!! 😀 SQUEEEE!

    1. You’re so sweet, Grace! ☺️ The girl who won best-dressed had this amazing floor-length red cape (she was actually standing right next to me when the judge, Iko, chose the winner) and I was very impressed. But I appreciate you saying that! <3 Fangirls unite! I don’t suppose you would happen to be a Lunartic?

      1. Oh my goodness…I didn’t see this reply before now! 🙂 I haven’t read them before, but I just might have to very soon! Even though I haven’t read them, I definitely know the feeling where your whole head is squealing! 😀

        1. Yes, that’s such a good description of your whole head squealing! I think that’s why so many people use the asdfjkl;lkjfdsa thing to express their fangirling; it’s a difficult emotion to describe. I would definitely recommend the series, in case you haven’t guessed by now, haha. 🙂

  3. I don’t know this book series although I am an avid reader so I can totally understand your excitement over meeting a much loved author. I am so glad you were able to meet her and what a wonderful outcome! And to be able to show her your crochet dolls and have her appreciate and like them. So fantastic. Now I need to check these books out. 🙂

    1. Thanks so much for your comment, Yolanda! I, too, am super happy I got to meet my favorite author…I know you understand since you’re an avid reader! I would give the book series my highest recommendations; Winter was one of the best series finales I’ve ever read, probably tied with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Now The Lunar Chronicles has a place of honor on my bookshelf. 🙂

      1. Can’t wait to try it.
