I’d almost finished this post. I had a few more sentences to go, then I was going to proofread and publish. But then I had to go and click some random button. Seemingly harmless, yet when I returned to my post, it wasn’t there.
So, please take my advice, and don’t go pushing mysterious buttons when posting on WordPress! Let’s try this again.
The Barbie Toga
Materials
Size 10 Crochet Thread
Size D (3.25 MM) crochet hook
Scissors & Yarn needle
The Pattern
Ch 50. Join with a slip stitch to the first chain to form a ring, being careful not to twist chain.
Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join.
Round 2: Ch 1. Sc 15, skip 10 sts (which forms the strap), sc 15 more, sk the last 10 sts. Sl st to join.
Rounds 3-10: Ch 1, sc in each st around, sl st to join.
Round 11: *Sc 4, sc2tog* around.
Do not fasten off.
Now we’re going to extend the toga by working half-double crochets in rows.
Ch 20. Hdc 19 starting in 2nd ch from hk. Now you have this long flap hanging from the toga top. We need to attach it to the top with two slip stitches.
You have a bunch of unworked stitches from Round 11. Find the first unworked stitch and slip stitch into it. Then slip stitch 1 more into the next stitch.
The slip stitches count as your turning chain. Now turn the work, and half-double crochet across.
You should be at the end of the row without the slip stitches. Chain 2 and turn. Now hdc in each st across.
Repeat this method (2 joining slip stitches, turn, hdc across, ch 2, turn, hdc across) until you’re all the way around. I added 4 extra rows to make it flowy-er by slip stitching in the same space more than once, when there weren’t any unworked stitches left. This is optional.
Tip: When doing the slip stitches and turning, it can be hard to see where to put the first hdc. When you are about to slip stitch, try putting a stitch marker into the last hdc. Then, when you turn it, you’ll be able to see where to go.
Now turn the toga inside out. Join the hdc rows by slip stitching across through both layers. Turn the toga right-side out, and fasten off.
The toga top will be kind of baggy. I decided to cinch it up a bit, but you can leave it baggy if you like. I wove some thread across the front (between the straps) and cinched it. Weave in all of your loose ends, and you’re done!
