Easy Beanie Crochet Pattern

Bonjour,

As promised, here is my pattern for an easy crocheted hat!  I figured out a smaller size to fit the someone around the age of 10.  You’ll find the smaller size below the adult size.

MATERIALS

Worsted-weight yarn in color of your choice – I used ‘I Love This Yarn’ because it’s super soft.

Size I (5.50 MM) crochet hook

Scissors, yarn needle, and a row counter is helpful but not essential.

PATTERN NOTES

This pattern is worked in joined rounds.  You’ll start crocheting in the next stitch with a stacked single crochet (I learned how to do one here).  The last stitch will be made in the slip stitch of the previous round.

If you don’t know how to do a magic ring, some alternatives are to chain 4 and sl st to form a ring, or chain 4 and work 9 dcs into the 4th ch from the hook.

To avoid confusion, ‘2 dc in next st’ is written in the pattern as ‘inc’.

SPECIAL STITCHES

Stacked single crochet (see Pattern Notes), abbreviated as st-sc.

Reverse single crochet for possible edging, abbreviated as rvsc.

ADULT SIZE

Make a magic ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1st dc for the only time in this pattern), dc 9 into ring.  Sl st to 3rd ch of beg ch-3 to join.  (10 sts)

Rnd 2: St-sc in next st, dc in same st.  Inc in each st around.  Sl st to st-sc to join.  (20 sts)

Rnd 3: St-sc in next st, 2 dc in next st.  *Dc 1, inc in next st* around.  Sl st to st-sc to join.  (30 sts)

Rnd 4: St-sc in next st, dc in next st, inc in next st.  *Dc 2, inc in next st* around.  Sl st to st-sc to join.  (40 sts)

Rnd 5: St-sc in next st, dc in next 2 sts, inc in next st.  *Dc 3, inc in next st* around.  Sl st to st-sc to join.  (50 sts)

Rnd 6: St-sc in next st, dc in next 3 sts, inc in next st.  *Dc 4, inc in next st* around.  Sl st to st-sc to join.  (60 sts)

Rnds 7-18: St-sc in next st, dc in each st around.  Sl st to st-sc to join.  (60 sts)

EDGING (Rnd 19):

I did two different edgings for the two hats.  The black one has a reverse single-crochet around the edge, the brown one has single crochet.  I added a flower to the brown one (found here), or you could use a flower from my blog, the list can be found here.

CHILD SIZE (around 10 years old)

(50 sts)

Rnd 6: St-sc in next st, dc in next 8 sts, inc in next st.  *Dc 9, inc in next st* around.  Sl st to st-sc to join.  (55 sts)

Rnds 7-15: St-sc in next st, dc in each st around.  Sl st to st-sc to join.  (55 sts)

EDGING (Rnd 16):  Same as larger size.

I hope you like the pattern!  Have fun crocheting.
