Fringe Cosplay & Rose City Comic Con

Hello lovely followers! I’m super excited to share my latest adventure with all of you! Today I’ll be showing you my first foray into cosplay, which I did for my first ever Comic Con. Eeeeep! 😀

So lately I’ve gotten into the show “Fringe,” and I’m halfway through the third season. (It was removed from both Amazon Prime AND Netflix, so now I’m waiting on it at the library. I’ll continue my obsessive watching when the hold comes in, hehe.) Amazon had a good description: it’s about “three unlikely partners – FBI Agent Olivia Dunham, brilliant but damaged scientist Walter Bishop, and his jack-of-all-trades son Peter – on mind-bending investigations, battling threats lurking at the border between science and science fiction.” It’s absolutely fantastic, I can’t rave about it enough.

My friend invited me along to Comic Con, and I was planning on doing a female version of Han Solo for my costume. But three days before the event, I decided, “Why not do something completely crazy and change it last minute?” 😛

So I did some obsessive Google-Image-searching, made a whole reference folder, and three days later had this:

How about a more in-character picture?:

I never outgrew dressing up, so this was just about the most fun thing ever! I’m so lucky to have a friend who’s into nerdy stuff like this too. 🙂

My cosplay was vastly unimpressive next to everyone else at Comic Con. So many people had these amazing handmade costumes that obviously took them a really long time. It was incredible! It was the most amazing atmosphere – if you haven’t gone to a convention like this, imagine a huge room filled with tables packed with all sorts of nerdy things, from Harry Potter wands to Grumpy Cat comic books to Iron Man memorabilia. You can see Rey and Kylo Ren having a peaceful discussion and turn around to find Spider-Man having a lightsaber duel with Rapunzel. And everyone is so NICE – you can stroll up to your favorite character and ask to take a picture with them!

I had so much fun taking pictures with different cosplayers – there were so many I wanted to post, but I narrowed it down to these…

It was a super fun day, although very tiring for an introvert. I pretty much got home and fell asleep! I came home with a lot of souvenirs, which I present to you here:

From left to right: a couple bookmarks; Ashlynn Ella, whom I’ve been wanting to add to my collection for a while now; a flyer given to me by a Marty McFly cosplayer; wire elf ear cuffs, which I am mildly obsessed with; a hand-carved wand out of hawthorn wood, there was a booth with TONS of Harry Potter-inspired wands; my day pass; chocolate Stormtroopers and Darth Vader; the brochure; a tote bag I bought to carry this bounty; and a picture with my friend who invited me along and Peter Mayhew, who’s the guy inside the Chewbacca suit! My friend was kind enough to let me accompany him for the photo op, and now I have the picture displayed in a place of honor, it was a ton of fun. 🙂

(tip for future me: set a budget before you get there and are overwhelmed with GEEK STUFF GEEK STUFF GEEK STUFF)

I know none of this is really craft-related (apart from some of the costume!), but I really wanted to share the highlights, much like I did for the Winter launch party. Have any of you gone to Comic Con, or done any cool cosplay or geeky stuff? I’d love to hear about it!

I’ll leave you with my favorite picture from Comic Con…

  1. OH MY GOSH!!! That looks AMAZING!!! 😀 <3 I haven't seen Fringe, but you're definitely making me want to! As you know, detective/spy stuff is my fave. 😀 And AHHH you got a pic with Wesley! 🙂 I do love cosplay, but I've never been to a convention. That looked like such fun!! Your outfit is fantastic, and I love the red wig!! 🙂

    1. Hehe, thank you so much, Grace! The red wig made me think of you with all your red-haired dolls. 🙂 I was so excited to get a picture with Westley, I went complete fangirl! 😀 And I would totally recommend Fringe, I’m enjoying it more with each episode haha. 😀

  2. XD The first con I went to I was in high school and it was an anime con. It was tiny. Perfect, really for a first one. I went with my friends and we dressed up as characters from Naruto.
After that, we went to Tampa and a bigger anime con. I went to Cons in Orlando and Tampa periodically since. It was hard with school. They are so much fun. Now, I love being behind the camera taking pictures of all the amazing costumes that people make. My friend still dresses up (I have a photo somewhere of her as Orihime holding a Kon I made for her costume), which makes it EVEN MORE FUN cause I can force her to get into pictures that I don’t wanna be in. XD One place that I always love in the cons are the Artist sections because you can find more one of a kind works there.

I’m glad you had a blast. If you’re ever in Florida for a con, especially in central/south florida, let me know. I maaaaaay be there. 😛

    1. Your con experiences sound so cool, dragonsashes! I love the artist sections, I found myself gravitating toward those booths more than I expected, they do have a lot of one-of-a-kind things. And it was so much fun taking pictures (with permission of course) of all the cosplayers! If I ever end up at a con in Florida, I will definitely let you know, it would be so cool to meet a blogging friend! 🙂 Thanks for the lovely comment.
