Today I felt the urge to crochet a circle, so I did.

After I crocheted three rounds I added some edging and ended up with a coaster. That was perfect because I’ve actually needed a coaster for some time; it will never do to have one’s water bottle leaving rings on the table. I think I’ll make a few more coasters in different color arrangements to have a complete set. Edit: Thanks filliefanatic for the ‘tropical’ suggestion!

Materials

• 2 colors of worsted weight yarn – I used an anonymous red acrylic (main color) and Red Heart Super Saver in “Pumpkin” (contrasting color). Obviously you can choose whichever colors you want, or make the whole thing in one color, or do more color changes. Mix it up! Be creative! etc.
• Size I (5.50 MM) crochet hook
• yarn needle
• scissors

Notes

The starting chain never counts as a stitch. I like to pull my slip stitches tight so you can’t see them as well in the finished product. Also, I’m a firm believer in crocheting over one’s ends as one goes, which minimizes weaving at the end. This isn’t a good procedure if the item will be used a lot (such as a garment or blanket), but for a decorative item like a coaster it works just fine.

Pattern

With main color, ch 4, join with a sl st to form a ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 13 dc in ring, sl st to first dc.

Rnd 2: Ch 2, 2 dc in same st and in every st around. Sl st to first dc; fasten off main color.

Rnd 3: Join contrasting color and ch 2, dc in same st. Dc in next st, 2 dc in next st. *Dc 2, 2 dc in next st* around, sl st to first dc. Fasten off contrasting color.

Rnd 4: Join main color and ch 1, sc in same st. *Sk next st, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in next st, sk next st, sc in next st* around, omitting last sc. Sl st into first sc. Fasten off and weave in all ends.

Now I have a poll for y’all. In 2013 I blogged a book, The Yarn Wars, where I basically posted a chapter a week for 20ish weeks. It was a lot of fun, although now that I look back I cringe a little at my own writing, and I was thinking about blogging another book. Here’s a quick summary I wrote up (all of this is subject to change – and it needs a name!):

Emma works at Yarn Emporium, a small, locally owned yarn store. When she discovers the ‘Infatuation Wrap’, donated to the store by a mysterious woman, her life goes from ordinary to unexpected.

Before long, the wrap is taking over her life. She obsesses over it, and her fingers bleed nonstop because she can’t stop crocheting. Emma needs to find the wrap’s origin, and lift the curse on it. The more information she discovers, the more she realizes this is a life-or-death matter. But Emma is determined to not be the next victim.

With the help of her sister, Hayden, and Catherine, the granddaughter of a past victim, can Emma find the cure to the Infatuation Wrap?

My new story will be yarn-related and probably not much more than 10,000 words. I wanted to know your thoughts on the matter. Cogaroo Crafts is, funnily enough, a craft blog, and this is different than my typical posts.

Also, this might not be in the near future because I’m still working on my NaNoWriMo novel. I think maybe in the next few months, though. This will be a slow process; I’m just curious if you’re interested or not. Funny how busy life gets. So please take a minute and let me know your thoughts in this super fantastic poll below…
