Barbie Leotard

Bonjour,

I made a Barbie skirt yesterday, but it was see-through and I didn’t have anything to put underneath it.  I’ve been wanting to make a Barbie swimsuit/leotard for a while, so this was a perfect opportunity.

I could definitely work on the shaping, but at least she doesn’t look as ridiculously skinny now!  

Materials

Size 10 Crochet Thread

2.1 MM steel hook

Note: The turning chain does not count as a stitch unless otherwise specified (like with triple crochets).

 

Ch 35, join with a slip stitch to first chain to form ring, being careful not to twist chain.

Rnd 1: Ch 1, hdc 1 in each st around, sl st to 1st hdc.

Do not cut yarn.

Start flap for pants:

Row 1: Ch 1, hdc 7.

Row 2: Ch 1, turn. Hdc 1 in each st, decreasing at each end.

Rows 3-7: Ch 1, turn, hdc 1 in each st across.

Rows 8 & 9: Hdc 1 in each st, increasing at each end.

Rows 10-12: Hdc 1 in each st across.

Row 13: Hdc 1 in each st, increasing at each end.

Row 14: Hdc 1 in each st across.

The flap will reach between the Barbie’s legs, we need to join it at the other end.  Slip stitch the two layers together (Row 14 of the flap and the first round that we did), making sure that it’s even.  

 

Now, back to the torso. Join the yarn to the bottom of the chain-35.  Joining method is the same as the first round (ch 1 {does not count as a stitch}, work whatever required hdc row, sl st to 1st hdc to join.)

Rnd 1: Hdc 1 in each space around.

Rnd 2: *hdc 5, hdc2tog* around.

Rnd 3: Ch 4 (counts as first tr), tr 1 in each st around, join w/ sl st to top of ch 4.

Rnds 4-15: Hdc 1 in each st around.

Rnd 16: Sc 1 in each st around.

Make strap:

Rnd 17: Ch 1.  Sc 7, ch 12, skip 9 stitches, sl st to next st.  Sl st 1 more.  Turn and single crochet back down the chain.  Slip stitch to one of the single crochets from the sc 7 at the beginning of this round.  Single crochet back across to finish, slip stitching to join.  Then I did another round of single crochets, going across the strap too.

Finishing:

Join thread to leg hole with a chain 1.  Hdc around.  Fasten off and weave in ends.

 

The leotard works very well under something like this.  Pattern: Cut a hole in the middle of a piece of fabric. Sew a small ponytail holder to the hole, which will cinch up the fabric.  You’re done.  (Can you see why I didn’t do this as its own post?)
