The Bunny Drop Project

I’m participating in the Bunny Drop Project – click here to read the original post by Lollipops and Rainbows.  A short summary: you crochet a tiny bunny, put a tag on it (found at the link), and leave it in a random place for a random person to find and keep.  Awesome, huh?

So I thought I would design my own bunny for it!  No sewing required – all the limbs are made from chains, various crochet stitches, and bobbles (also known as popcorn stitches, but that makes me too hungry.)  It’s super fast to make, so you can crochet a bunch and leave them all over the place!  I think it took me about 10-15 minutes per bunny.

Materials: yarn, crochet hook, stuffing, stitch marker – I used various worsted-weight yarns and a F (3.75 MM) hook, but you could use any combination you like.

Notes & Special Stitches: The bunny is worked in a continuous spiral, so a stitch marker is useful to mark the first stitch of every round.

Ear = Ch 5, sc in 2nd ch from hk, hdc in next 3 chs. Ear made.

Hdc-bobble = 5 hdc in designated stitch, remove hook from loop, put hook from front to back through first hdc made, put loop back on hook, pull loop through 1st hdc – bobble made.  (these are used for the paws)

Pattern:

R1: 6 sc in a magic ring (do this in pink if you want a pink nose, then change to main body color at the end)

R2: 2 sc in each st around.

R3: *sc 3, 2 sc in next st* around

R4&5: sc around

R6: Ear, sc 2, Ear, sc 5, hdc-bobble, sc 2, hdc-bobble, sc 2, 2sc in same st, sc 2.

R7-9: sc around

R10: Sc 8, hdc-bobble, sc 2, hdc-bobble, sc 4

R11: *sc 1, sc2tog* 5 times, sc 1.  Stuff your bunny.

R12: *sc2tog* 4 times. Sl st to next st, FO, and sew remaining hole closed.

Tail: Make a tiny pom-pom and sew it to the bunny’s derriere!

Congratulations. You have crocheted a bunny. Now go leave her in some random place and wait to see a random person find her!
