In the foothills of the Mountain of the Five Gods, Kestrel earns a living by guiding tourists to the summit so they can make a wish. Although Kestrel doesn’t believe in the gods and thinks the tourists are foolish, her newest client Phaedra is different. She’s traveled all the way from the desert to make an impossible request, but her body is so frail it will take all of Kestrel’s skills to get them both to the summit and back. But what will Phaedra do if her wish isn’t granted?
