Barbie Leotard – Yarn Version

A while ago I did a Barbie Leotard/Swimsuit with crochet thread.  But I wasn’t very happy with the shaping, so I decided to try again, this time with yarn!

Materials

Worsted weight yarn – I used I Love This Yarn for the one in the picture

Size G (4.00 MM) crochet hook

Directions

Except in the beginning chain (which you can work into however you like), the leotard is worked through the FRONT LOOPS ONLY!  This makes it thinner, stretchier, quicker, and it ends up with these pretty princess-like seams.

Ch 22. Sc in 2nd ch from hk and each ch across. (21 sts)

R2-3: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.

R4: Ch 1, turn, sc in first 13 sts only.  The flap at the bottom will form the bottom of the leotard.

R5: Ch 1, turn, sc2tog, sc in rest of sts across.

R6: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to last 2 sts, sc2tog.

R7-15: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st across.

R16: Ch 1, turn, sc in each st to last st, inc in last st.

R17: Ch 1, turn, inc in 1st st, sc in rest of sts across.

FO, leaving a long tail for sewing.  Sew Row 17 to the beginning chain, lining up the top.  Sew the end of rows 1-3 to the opposite side, forming the part that goes between the Barbie’s legs.

Attach the yarn to the top of the leotard, sc evenly around, join, fasten off, and weave in all ends. This neatens up the top.

Your Barbie leotard is done!  It works nicely under a slightly wider skirt, tutu, or on its own.  I hope you enjoy the pattern. 😉  What do you think of my new theme?  It’s my favorite yet!
