Salut,
Today, I’m going to share a zinnia pattern. But I didn’t actually create it. I just crocheted it and wrote it.
My little sister and I came up with a fun thing to do. She says random crochet stitches and I do them. “Triple crochet! Bullion stitch. Three single crochets. Slip stitch. Chain twenty-two.” The result is an interesting freeform crochet item. Usually I frog it after taking a picture. During one of these games, she came up with a really cool-looking stitch, and we thought it would make a pretty flower.
CHARTED PATTERN can be found at the bottom of the post. [edited 9/4/14: sorry but all my pictures disappeared, and I don’t know where I put the charted pattern! I’ll try to put it up if you’d like it. Until then there’s always the regular pattern… ]
Materials
Yarn, crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors. The yarn was Red Heart Super Saver. I have no idea what size hook I used. Just use one that’s recommended for your yarn or a little bit smaller.
Pattern
Ch 7, dc in 4th ch from hk. Sc in next ch. Sk 1 and dc in last ch. *Ch 7, dc in 4th ch from hk. Sc in next ch. Fpdc around the underlined dc from previous petal.*
Repeat from * to * to make as many petals as desired (I made 26). Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Coil first two petals (the ones closest to the long yarn end) around tightly in a spiral. Continue coiling petals around, sewing them as you go. Make sure that you look at the front as you’re rolling/sewing to make sure that it looks to your satisfaction. When you’ve coiled all of the petals, knot yarn and weave in ends.
Here’s my attempt at charting the pattern. You’ll need to make more petals, I only charted 4. You can see a chart of the symbols I used here. [see note at top of post about disappearing chart! sorry!]
