Mini Om Nom Pattern

I went looking for the missing Om Nom, and I found it lurking underneath the bed.  Now I can share the pattern with you!

EDIT July 7, 2015: I updated this pattern with a hopefully clearer writing style and easier assembly. You can see the original Om Nom in the below picture – but the pattern is for the newer one. The only changes are that the legs are smaller and more accurate.

Materials

• Size G (4.00 MM) hook
• Worsted weight yarn in green (I used I Love This Yarn for the original and Red Heart Super Saver for the updated – you need a vibrant green. I dubbed this shade “Om Nom Green” – you’ll know it when you see it!)
• White felt
• Black & white thread for embroidering features and sewing
• Sewing needle and yarn needle
• Teeny black buttons – I used “Favorite Findings” which comes with a bunch of white & black buttons.
• Small amount of stuffing

Antenna & Body

Rnd 1: 6 sc in a Magic Ring. [Alternate start: Ch 2 and work 6 sc in the 2nd ch] Do not join, continue to work in a spiral, using a yarn scrap/stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round.

Rnd 2: *Sc 1, 2 sc in next st* around.

Rnd 3-4: Sc 1 in each st around.

Rnd 5: *Sc 1, sc2tog* around.

Rnd 6-8: Sc in each st around. [You can add or subtract rounds to get the desired antenna length.]

Rnd 9: *Sc 1, 2 sc in next st* 6x.

Rnd 10: *Sc 2, 2 sc in next st* 6x.

Rnd 11: *Sc 3, 2 sc in next st* 6x.

Rnd 12: *Sc 4, 2 sc in next st* 6x.

Rnd 13: *Sc 5, 2 sc in next st* 6x.

Rnd 14: *Sc 6, 2 sc in next st* 6x.

Rnd 15-20: Sc in each st around.

Embroider face on Om Nom now.  Cut two circles from white felt.  I sewed a small black button onto each for the pupils, but you can embroider them if you prefer.  Sew these onto the face.  Then, cut four triangles for the teeth.  I like to sew these on in the desired position and then embroider the mouth with black thread on top of that.  It makes the teeth look like they’re coming out from beneath it.

After you’ve embroidered the face, then stuff!  The firmer the better, because stuffing relaxes over time.

Continue with the body base (which used to be a separate piece, but now I’ve worked it into the body to prevent more sewing!)

Rnd 21: In back loops only, *sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog* 6x.

Rnd 22: *Sc 1, sc2tog* 6x.

Rnd 23: Sc2tog 6x. Sl st to next st and fasten off. Weave in ends.

Front Legs

Rnd 1: Sc 6 in a Magic Ring.

Rnd 2-3: Sc in each st around.

Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.  Stuff.  Sew the open end together, sewing through both loops of the single crochets, and sew to Om Nom body.

Back Legs (Make 2)

Rnd 1: In Magic Ring, sc 6.

Rnd 2: *sc 1, 2 sc in next st* around

Rnd 3-5: Sc 1 in each st around.

Rnd 6: *Sc 1, sc2tog* around.

Fasten off, leaving long tail for sewing.  Stuff.  Sew the open end together, sewing through both loops of the single crochets, and sew to Om Nom body.

Congratulations, you have crocheted an amigurumi Om Nom!
